Epiphany 7: Waging Peace
.-> Waging Peace is an article wrtitten by Ellen J. Ingmanson with Takayoshi Kano. This article talks about Ellen's experience with the pygmy chimapanzees better known as the Bonobos. It also talks about how she observed and first hand witnessed the Bonobos way of living. At first, i didn't want to read the 4 paged article because i thought that it was boring and a waste of time. But when i started to read it, i found the first paragraphs really exciting because it immediately talks about Kame's family. Every part of this article is interesting and offers a new insight about the Bonobo family. How they lived, how they interacted with each other, how they travel (always in groups) and how they use sex not just merely for pleasure but also a social tool which also explains the Bonobos' peaceful existence. I really am intrigued by the fact the Bonobos are really close to us humans. Like the way they use different tools, like improvised toothpicks, for easier living. I also like the way, and it makes it more fun to read, the author tells stories about the Bonobos. The story about the supreme indifference of Kame towards Ika. Because with each story, a new knowledge of the Bonobos is shared. The way of thinking and behavior of the Bonobos is really unlike others like the common chimpanzess. The Bonobos are naturally peaceful and tranquil. They tend to avoid aggressive actions and warfare. Their only threatened by the occasional stalking leopard or by human hunters. I think that Waging Peace is the title of this article because when you read it, you would notice that the Bonobos could merely rely on cooperation for their survival rather than struggling for dominance. As seen when a new female Bonobo arrives to Kame's gang. Before i knew it, i was almost done with the article. Time really flies when you're enjoying what you're reading.
